Voting Yes
A strike vote is called when our negotiators feel they are not able to make any headway on our demands. It does not mean we will be going on strike immediately. What we are actually voting on is whether we approve of our National Executive having the right to call for a strike if/when they think it’s necessary. It is, in the end, another bargaining chip for our negotiators to use.
To make this bargaining chip as strong as possible, it is important to get as many members as possible to vote and to get as many of them as possible to vote yes. It helps show the employer that we are engaged and we mean it. A strong strike mandate and high member participation can be enough to prevent or shorten a strike.
