Local Dispatch (26/02/11)

Friends and comrades,

In this week’s Dispatch, we are covering recent negotiations updates, education opportunities, committee meetings, a survey from the Social Committee, and some steps to take if you’re still having issues logging into Employee Self-Serve.

Before getting to that, I would like to draw your attention to the We Together Strong Community’s 6th Annual Project Heart. The donation drive ended this past Friday. Thank you to everyone who contributed. We Together Strong Community is currently looking for volunteers to help prepare the kits on February 12th and to help distribute them on February 14th. For more information, please see the details HERE.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Updates

Since the last Dispatch, we have received two bulletins with contract details for Urban members and one for RSMCs.

  • Protecting Job Security: If we accept this Collective Agreement, the rights of job security under Article 53 will be extended to around 3,000 members who have less than 5-years of continuous employment. If you are a regular (permanent) employee the day the Agreement is signed, you cannot be laid off during the life of the Collective Agreement. Read the full bulletin HERE.
  • Group 2 Relief Complements: For letter carriers and MSCs, the new Collective Agreement will see all relief combined into a single complement with this base relief complement being higher than under past CAs. Currently, adjustments to relief are made yearly through the use of bar charts, but this new CA will allow for quarterly reviews in order to make these adjustments. To read the full bulletin, click HERE.
  • RSMC OT, Comp Time, Vacation, and Leaves: After switching to the hourly rate of pay system, RSMCs will be paid OT at the same rates as Urban members. Also like Urban members, RSMCs will be able to exchange OT for paid time off in the form of comp time. Vacation leave will be able to be carried over and RSMCs will be able to displace vacation leave when they are granted bereavement leave, special leave with pay, court leave, leave for birth or adoption of child, injury on duty leave, Short-Term Disability, and quarantine leave.
