Local Dispatch (25/10/01)

Friends and comrades,

A lot has happened since the last Dispatch, but we’re going to be covering the latest negotiations update, our next general membership meeting, and our picket schedule.

Before getting to that, there are three other points to cover.

First, there is a petition that has been put forward by a member of the House of Commons that calls for a full parliamentary inquiry into the finances and actions of Canada Post, including executive pay and conflicts of interests. To read more and sign that petition, click HERE.

Second, there was some confusion initially with our strike pay. We have received confirmation today from our National Secretary-Treasurer Bev Collins that strike pay is $63.42 per four-hour shift up to 5-days per week.

Finally, if you have signed up for the text messaging service and you haven’t received a text message, please add the following phone number to your contacts so that your phone doesn’t block it or mark it as spam: +18338490390. (Please keep in mind that we haven’t sent a message since September 25th.)

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Update

Last Thursday, Minister Lightbound announced that the government would be implementing the recommendations from the Kaplan Report in full. This decision came after the government announced it would be doing a review and looking for public consultation. In response to this attack on our jobs, our union called a full-strike. To read that bulletin, click HERE

As of last Friday, the Corporation was still maintaining our benefits. Click HERE for more information.

There is also a bulletin about what we are fighting for: the right to public consultation, the right to good public services, and the right to free and fair collective bargaining. To read that bulletin, click HERE.

October GMM

There have been some questions about our next GMM, but it is proceeding as scheduled and will be happening on Saturday, October 4th at 10 am. It is a hybrid meeting, so you can attend in person (18121 107 Ave NW) or online via Zoom. If you wish to attend online, the deadline to register is October 3rd at noon. For more information and to register to attend online, click HERE.

Picket Schedule

I’ve updated the website to include a dedicated page for the picket schedule. You can find that by clicking HERE or by checking under the News & Events section. This is updated frequently, so please check back often to see if anything has changed.
