Local Dispatch (25/08/13)

Friends and comrades,

In this week’s Dispatch, we are covering the most recent negotiations update, an upcoming Social Committee meeting, the UNFair Canada campaign, the Women’s Equinox, and the EDLC Labour Day BBQ.

Before getting to that, I would like to first give a shout out to the Social Committee for having such a successful event this past weekend. Sounds like it was great weather for tubing on the Pembina River! If you’re interested in participating in further events or helping plan them, check out the details for the next Social Committee meeting.

Second, it’s been a while since we’ve put this reminder out there, but, as this period of uncertainty continues, it’s a good idea to make sure your prescriptions are filled and that your receipts have been submitted.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Update

Canada Post CEO Doug Ettinger has finally responded to our union’s call to return to the bargaining table. Ettinger appealed to a need to act with urgency, despite negotiations being delayed by close to 8-months now because of the Corporation requesting government interference.

According to Ettinger, the Corporation was open to continued discussions with the help of federal mediators, but they wanted our union to respond to the “best and final” offers — the ones we just voted to reject.

On August 12th, our union met with representations from the Corporation and federal mediators. Both parties agreed to meet with mediators again on August 15th and August 18th. The overtime ban remains in effect. To read the full bulletin, click HERE.

Social Committee Meeting

The next Social Committee meeting is scheduled for August 14th at 6:45 pm via Zoom. For more information and for the link to attend, click HERE.

UNFair Canada

There is an ongoing campaign to highlight the mistreatment of airline workers by their employer at Canada’s biggest airline. Did you know that cabin crew are only paid when the plane is moving? For more information and to send a message and show your support for workers, visit UnfairCanada.com.

Women’s Equinox

The Women’s Equinox has been planned for the weekend of September 12-14th, 2025. This event is taking place just outside of Red Deer at Camp LG Barnes on Gull Lake (40421 Range Rd 10, Gull Lake, AB  T0C 0J0).

The Local Women’s Committee is able to send 20 members from Edmonton. Cost per member is $20, even for members outside of Edmonton and Calgary. This event is a great opportunity to learn more about women’s health in a warm and welcoming environment with your fellow union sisters and cousins. More details to follow.

If you have questions or concerns, you can contact the Committee at Womenof730@gmail.com.
