Local Dispatch (25/06/04)

Friends and comrades,

In this week’s Dispatch, we will be covering negotiations updates (including our union filing an unfair labour practice against the Corporation), staying connected through the text service, the June GMM, and an upcoming Education Committee meeting.

We are on Day 13 of the overtime ban. As of writing this, the Corporation is still proceeding as though our agreements are in place. If you have any questions about leave, please contact your staffing supervisor. If anything changes on this front, we will be using the texting service, email list, and website to get that information out.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Update

Last Friday, the Corporation contacted the government to ask them to make us vote on their final offers by using Section 108.1 of the Canada Labour Code. To read that section of the Labour Code, click HERE.

Our union is against this forced vote (click HERE for the full bulletin) and has asked the Corporation to participate in binding arbitration and the Corporation has refused (click HERE for that bulletin).

We are still waiting for Minister Patty Hajdu to respond to either request. Her current position is that our union and the Corporation needs to get back to the bargaining table with federal mediators. To read that article, click HERE.

Today, our union released a fact sheet that highlights the impacts that some of the Corporation’s biggest demands will have on us as workers. To view that fact sheet, click HERE.

National has also launched a petition to Minister Hajdu asking that we not be forced to vote on the Corporation’s offers. To sign that petition, click HERE.

We also just received a bulletin from Lana Smidt and Carl Girouard stating that CUPW has filed an unfair labour practice against the Corporation. The reasons for this include using captive audience meetings in order to bypass our union and bargain with members directly. Our union is asking for the CIRB to level the playing field by giving our union the opportunity to rebut the Corporation on the same platforms they’ve used. You can read the full bulletin HERE.

Staying ConnectedAs we did leading up to the strike in November, we will continue to share information as we get it through this email list, on the Local website, and through our text messaging service.
If you received text messages during the last strike, nothing has changed. If you didn’t receive any and you swore you signed up, please make sure you have added the phone number 1 (833) 849-0390 to your contacts.
If you have not signed up to receive text messages, you can do that by clicking HERE.
