Friends and comrades,
This is definitely a longer Dispatch. This week, we will be covering negotiations updates, our Local media campaign, double deductions for basic life and disability insurance, International Women's Day, upcoming committee meetings, the Education for All! campaign, and the suspension of our Local dues assessment.
Solidarity,
Kyle Turner, Communications Officer
Negotiations Update
Our union and the Corporation returned to the bargaining table on March 1st and 2nd. Our union presented solutions that would benefit postal workers and improve the post office, but the Corporation continued to push for serious rollbacks that would gut our collective agreements. Local Media Campaign
At the March GMM, members voted to approve the funding and the proposed strategy for our Local's media campaign. We will be focusing on keeping the post office public. More details will follow as we begin working on the campaign.
Double Deductions for Basic Life and Disability Insurance
It has come to the attention of the Local that there have been double deductions for basic life insurance and disability insurance in pay period 27 of 2024 and pay period 2 of 2025. For further details and to get involved in the Local grievance if you have been impacted by this, click

International Women's Day
Women 4 Rights and Empowerment (W4RE) will be hosting an International Women's Day dinner and discussion on
March 8th at
5 pm at the
Alberta Avenue Community Hall (9210 118 Ave). For more information and to reserve tickets for this event, click

Upcoming Committee Meetings
The Education Committee, Social Committee, Organizing Committee, and Dues Assessment Committee are having meetings in the next two weeks. For more information and for links to attend those meetings, click

Education for All!
The Alberta Workers Association (AWARE) and Migrante Alberta have launched a campaign to educate the public about how some students are denied access to education because of their parents' precarious immigration status.
For more information about this campaign and to send a letter to a school or school board, click
HERE.
Suspension of Dues Special Assessment and Creation of Dues Assessment Committee
At the March GMM, members voted to suspend our Local dues assessment at the beginning of the fiscal year. So starting in July, you should see a $15/month decrease in dues deductions.
There will be a committee meeting to discuss the special assessment. 6 members were elected to it at the March GMM, but it will be open to all members in good standing to attend and have voice but no vote. Details for this meeting will be announced on the website once they are available.
