Basic Shop Steward 27-29 January 2026

This 3-day course aims to provide new stewards with basic training, knowledge, and confidence.
Topics include: the different roles of the steward; how to investigate and file a grievance; communication skills; shop steward rights; the steward as organizer/mobilizer; and key provisions of the urban operations and RSMC collective agreements.

Deadline: Applications must be received by the Local Office by 5pm on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026.
If you have previously applied to Local or Regional training, and not been selected, you are encouraged to re-apply.

Temporary Workers and their Rights 17-19 February 2026

This course provides temporary workers with information about their rights and benefits under the urban collective agreement. The CUPW history section features the long struggle for better working conditions and secure employment for temporary workers. There are also segments on bumping and assignments, the steps to take to get a permanent job, and the pressures facing today’s public postal service. This course is recommended for Group 1 and 2 temporary workers, as well as stewards and local executive members who wish to better represent these members.

Social Stewards – Supporting Each Other Through Solidarity – March 2026 TBD

The course will run if there is enough serious interest.

This 5-day intensive course equips members with the skills and confidence to become Social Stewards—trusted, compassionate peers who provide support to co-workers facing personal challenges.
Participants will learn:

  • The role and responsibilities of a Social Steward
  • Strategies to address workplace issues with empathy and confidence
  • Active listening and identifying member concerns
  • Offering meaningful support and connecting members to resources

Applicants must complete and attach the Social Steward Questionnaire for consideration.

Deadline: Applications must be received by the Local Office by 5pm on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026.
Currently we are accepting applications to determine interest in the course, so applying as soon as possible is encouraged.
