September 19th, 2025 – “Sherwood Park Restructure”
On Thursday, September 18th, Local representatives met with management to discuss the upcoming restructure of the Sherwood Park depot.
Objections
Of note with this particular consultation is the number of objections our union filed about it.
• The Restructure Itself: Our Local has objected to doing a volume count during low volumes caused by an ongoing labour disruption and the Corporation actively encouraging customers to use other companies. This artificially deflates the volumes that will be used to build routes, making them unmanageable once those volumes return.
• Removal of Street Letter Boxes (SLBs): The Corporation changed its policy on the distance between SLBs without consulting with CUPW. Management claimed there was consultation, but they couldn’t tell us who it was with.
• Bergeron Decision: The Corporation continues to not follow Arbitrator Bergeron’s decision, which is that carriers need to be given a window of time to do customer pickups. Management continues to say they are following the National process.
• Time Values for Duallies: As per the Transport Canada mandate, carriers who are assigned duallies have extra steps when it comes to their pre-trip inspection. In particular, there is a log book that must be maintained. No other vehicle requires this, so extra time values have been asked for. The Corporation says they note our objection.
• SSD: Our union continues to object to all SSD restructures.
Sherwood Park has also been taken on as a pilot project to see if SSD routers can start earlier and work from 9:30 am until 5:30 pm. Earlier start times have been asked for at every consultation, but local management always says it’s out of their hands.
