Local Dispatch (26/05/14)

Friends and comrades,

In this week’s Dispatch we are covering the updated contract vote schedule, the Megan Whitfield Bursary, resolution writing drop-in sessions, upcoming social events, and upcoming committee meetings.

Before getting to that, there are three other bits of news to share.

First, the 2026 edition of the Union Education Program has been postponed. If you applied for it, the bulletin from National does say that they will keep your application on file. To read that full bulletin, click HERE.

Second, the CUPW Winnipeg Local hosted a town hall about saving door-to-door delivery. If you would like to watch this event, you can find the recording of that event HERE.

Finally, the Local office will be closed on Friday, May 15th in order to repair the floors.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Updated Contract Vote Schedule

New dates have been added for the votes that were postponed due to poor weather. If you were hoping to vote in Onoway, Wainwright, Whitecourt, Vermilion, Vegreville, those locations will have votes on May 23rd; and Hinton, Athabasca, Edson, and Lac La Biche have votes on May 24th. For the full updated schedule, click HERE.

Megan Whitfield Bursary

On the 6th anniversary of Megan Whitfield’s passing, CUPW is proud to continue her legacy through the Megan Whitfield Bursary. There are two $2,500 bursaries available to CUPW members in good standing or their dependents who are from equity-seeking groups and are pursuing studies in Human Rights or Labour Studies at a public post-secondary institution in Canada.

The application deadline is June 29th, 2026. For more information about Megan and for further details about how to apply for this bursary, click HERE.

Resolution Writing Drop-In Sessions

Our CUPW Regional Conference and National Convention will be happening before you know it and this is where we decide the policies of our union. We do this through writing resolutions and presenting them at a General Membership Meeting to be voted on.

If you’re interested in writing a resolution but you think you might need some help, our Local is offering 2 drop-in sessions. These sessions are happening at the union office (18121 107 Ave NW) and each session is approximately 2-hours. No registration is required and there are no book offs to attend.

  • Thursday, May 21st at 6 pm
  • Saturday, May 30th at 10 am
