Local Dispatch (25/07/16)

Friends and comrades,

In this week’s Dispatch, we will be covering negotiations updates, Labour College, upcoming committee meetings, tubing on the Pembina River, and the Women’s Equinox.

There are two pressing issues to address first. First, we still have not received any word on the date for the forced vote on the contract offer. Second, we are still receiving reports that there are problems with SAP. We have also received no further update about that beyond last week’s notification.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Updates

While there haven’t really been updates as far as negotiations go, there have been a number of bulletins from our National office about the importance of voting NO on the upcoming contract offer.

The National Executive Board, the majority of the Regional Executive Committees, and at least 71 so far Local Executive Committees have recommended that members vote NO on the contract. One question that does come up is what will happen if we vote NO? Our union will invite the Corporation’s negotiations team back to the bargaining table. The OT ban will be maintained but no additional strike actions will be taken. To read the full bulletin, click HERE.

Women’s Equinox

The Women’s Equinox has been planned for the weekend of September 12-14th, 2025. This event is taking place just outside of Red Deer at Camp LG Barnes on Gull Lake (40421 Range Rd 10, Gull Lake, AB  T0C 0J0).

The Local Women’s Committee is able to send 20 members from Edmonton. Cost per member from Edmonton and Calgary is $20. For other CUPW Locals, the cost to attend is $100 per member. This event is a great opportunity to learn more about women’s health in a warm and welcoming environment with your fellow union sisters and cousins. More details to follow.
