Local Dispatch (2025/06/25)

Friends and comrades,

We have a shorter Dispatch this week, but if the timing of last week’s Dispatch taught me anything, it’s always possible that we’re about to receive the big updates we’re all waiting for about the forced contract vote on the Corporation’s final offers.

For now, we will be covering the latest negotiations updates, the July GMM, and the Canadian Labour Congress’ Buy Union campaign.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Updates

On June 20th, our union met with the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to discuss the details of the forced vote. As of that meeting, no dates have been decided, but the CIRB says it will be an electronic vote with a phone option for those who can’t vote online, with materials to be distributed by email.

Our union raised concerns about distributing PINs and the employer’s offers by email because of the reality that some members don’t necessarily have known email addresses or even Internet access. Our union also pointed out that the list of potential voters that has been provided is incorrect. To read the full bulletin, click HERE.

When it comes to the contract details we have received, our union has also pointed out that the raise the Corporation has proposed for our first year is being exaggerated. The claim of 6%, according to the bulletin, is more like 1.1% for RSMCs and 2.46% for urban members. To read the full bulletin and get that breakdown, click HERE.

We have also received a bulletin from our Regional office that shares a flow chart outlining the outcomes of voting no and voting yes for this contract. To see that flow chart, click HERE. To take part in our Regional vote no Video Diaries campaign, see that bulletin HERE.

July GMM

Our next GMM is scheduled for Saturday, July 5th at 10 am. It is a hybrid meeting, so you can attend in person at the hall (18121 107 Ave NW) or online via Zoom. The deadline to register to attend online is Friday, July 4th at noon. For more information and to register to attend online, click HERE.

The position of Health & Safety Officer is up for a floor election at the July GMM. If you are interested in running for this position, you can check our Local By-Laws HERE to see if you meet the requirements.
