Local Dispatch (24/12/10)

Friends and comrades,

First order of business, the GoFundMe for Devon Rundvall is coming to a close tonight. This fundraiser has surpassed its initial goal, and Renée would like to thank everyone for their support.

Next, in this week's Dispatch we are covering the most recent negotiations update, a list of community resources available to us during these difficult times, a plan from National to phone zap your Member of Parliament, and two upcoming picket parties.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Update

In recent releases to the media, our Employer has accused our union of trying to "widen the gap in negotiations." In response, our union has since released a list of points that they are trying to move forward on in order to advance negotiations. Phone Your MP

National Office is requesting that you call your Member of Parliament and tell them to call on Canada Post to negotiate in good faith but to also reject the use of back-to-work legislation or any intervention that takes away our leverage.

Picket Parties

There are two picket parties coming up within our Local.

The AFL is hosting another picket party at the EMPP (!2135 149 St) on  Wednesday, December 11th at 5 pm. Once again, if you can make it out, please do! Rumour has it that (Calgary has had 500 people come out to one of their picket parties, but I don't know if parties are necessarily a competition. Maybe they are!)

In Athabasca, there will be a CUPW and Friends Picket Party at the Athabasca Post Office (4909 49th St, Athabasca) on Thursday, December 12th at 12 pm.
