Local Dispatch (24/10/30)

Friends and comrades,

In this week's Dispatch, we will be covering a GoFundMe to assist the children of Brother Devon Rundvall, the most recent negotiations updates, the November GMM, the upcoming picket captain and strike committee meetings that follow that GMM, as well as a reminder about the SMS/Text service.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Update

We have received a number of updates since the results of the strike vote were released last week. Those results came out after the last Dispatch was sent: Urban Operations Unit voted 95.8% in favour and the Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers Unit voted 95.5% in favour of strike action. To read that full bulletin, click HERE.

Our National Office has also released a bulletin covering the details of strike pay -- who can receive it, how it's paid, when it's paid. In order to be eligible for strike pay, you must have filled out the membership form and paid $5. To read the full bulletin, click HERE. (If you're not sure about your membership status, you can reach out to the Local office. Picket captains on our picket lines will have membership forms.)

Yesterday, the Corporation put forward another global offer. Today, our union made it clear that this offer still falls far too short of our demands as the Corporation continues to ask for rollbacks that essentially gut our collective agreements. You can read the full bulletin HERE.

November GMM

Our next GMM is Saturday, November 2nd at 10 am. It is a hybrid meeting, so you can attend in-person at our union office (18121 107 Ave NW) or online via Zoom. If you wish to attend online, you must register by noon on Friday, November 1st. For more information and for links to attend online, click HERE.

SMS/Text Service

Based on the negotiations updates, it seems we are getting closer to having to use the SMS/Texting service to alert everyone of what our next steps are. To take part in this, we will need your most up-to-date cell phone number. You can fill out the form to make sure we have that HERE.

The number you will receive a text from is (833)849-0390. Please add this to your contacts if you don't want it to be potentially marked as spam.

We will be sending a message over this service if our union or the Corporation gives 72-hour notice, so this will be a second test.

We will also be updating the website as well as the automated message that plays when you first call the office (780-423-9000) if we are on strike.
