Local Dispatch (24/10/04)

Friends and comrades,

It's been a busy month and there are still busy weeks ahead of us as we wrap up the strike votes. The member turnout has been exceptional so far. It's not a competition, of course, but the current champion for number of votes cast is the Hazeldean Community League. Ward's Auctions is a close second, having just surpassed the votes cast on the bus at Delton.

We have received a number of questions about the bus votes, and we want to make it clear that those votes that were cast on the bus outside of Delton and Mayfield still count. So if you participated in that way, you do not need to be concerned.

Solidarity,

Kyle Turner, Communications Officer

Negotiations Updates

On September 25th, our employer finally made a global offer. Our negotiators have had an opportunity to go over some of the proposed rollbacks contained in that offer. If you've been to a strike vote, you will have heard a lot of this already. If you haven't or if you need a refresher, you can read the full bulletin HERE.

SMS/Text Service

For our texting service that we will be using to let everyone know about a strike or lockout, messages will be coming from (833) 849-0390. Please add this number to your contacts so that it is not marked as spam.

If you're not sure if we have your cell phone number, you can update that by contacting the office or by completing our online form HERE.

Education Updates

There have been some changes made to the Education schedule. The deadline to apply for Building Worker Power and Strike Prep has been pushed back to October 7th. The What Can Your Union Do course has been cancelled because there is a similar course being offered by Regional. For more information on the Regional courses being offered, click HERE.
