Strike Vote Information Update

Statement from the Edmonton Local Executive

Comrades, Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

Last week, the National Executive Board (NEB) passed motions preventing the use of buses for this strike vote. We, and many others, requested that the NEB reconsider their decision. However, our request was denied. When we asked for rationale for them to not allow the use of buses for this incredibly important vote, none was given.

This was truly disappointing news. We enquired with the Canada Industrial Relations Board as to what would happen if we proceeded. One possible outcome would be that the entire country would have to revote. Our Local Exec has decided that we do not want to jeopardize the integrity of the strike votes across the country by proceeding with the buses here in Edmonton.

We are working diligently to book acceptable venues within Edmonton for the locations that were supposed to have buses.

Please keep an eye on our local website, social media and the dispatch for important updates regarding new dates and times for upcoming strike votes.

We would like to remind everyone that it is incredibly important to vote at one of the dates/locations. Our struggle is still against the employer, and we need to send a strong message that we are willing to fight for a strong collective agreement, as we deserve.

In solidarity,

CUPW 730 Edmonton Local Executive

SMS/Text Service

We sent out a test message over our SMS/Text service on September 9th and we got a lot of helpful feedback.

Our messages will be coming from (833) 849-0390, so we encourage you to add that number to your contacts so that it is not treated as spam.

If you didn't receive it and you know that we had your cell phone number by that date, check your phone's spam folder. Some phones have more aggressive filters than others, so the message may have slipped into there unnoticed.

If it's not in there, it's possible we didn't have your cell phone number. We have collected more cell phone numbers since then and those will be added to the list. If you are not sure or if you haven't talked to anybody about adding your number, you can get us your cell phone number by filling out our online form HERE.
