Local Educationals

If you are interested in applying to attend a course in the Edmonton Local, this is your last chance to do it for this year! Our Local educationals are scheduled to start up again in January.

Please have all L submitted to educate730@gmail.com or into the Local office by 5 pm on the day of the deadline.

  • October 2024 / Download Application / Application Deadline: September 20th, 2024
    • 1st: What Can Your Union Do? (via Zoom)
        • This course gives members key information about their union and helps them find their place in it. Topics include CUPW's history and Constitution, how to write a resolution, union values versus employer values, understanding power, and the many faces of union activism.
    • 8th: Building Worker Power
        • A union is only as powerful as it’s members are involved and willing to assert their collective power! This 1-day course gets back to the grassroots organizing that helped unions change the world for the better so long ago.  Participants will be trained on how to gather allies, as well as successfully build, and carry out, a work floor job action. 
    • 18th: Strike Preparation (via Zoom)
        • If you are interested in being a picket captain, this course is mandatory.

Edmonton & District Labour Council Annual Fall School

Dates: October 26th-27th, 2024

The EDLC will be hosting its Annual Fall School this October at the Chateau Louis Conference Centre (11420 117 St NW, Edmonton, AB). The courses being offered are Advanced Shop Steward (Level 3) - Steward as Educator*; A Path to Reconciliation; Basic Shop Steward*; Campaign Manager Training - Low Resource Campaigns; Member Engagement & Mobilization; and WCB Advocacy.

* Please note that CUPW has its own Shop Steward courses and does not recognize outside Shop Steward courses if you wish to become a CUPW Shop Steward.

Deadline to Apply: If you wish to apply for the EDLC Fall School through the Local, applications must be received by the Local office or emailed to the Education Officer (educate730@gmail.com) by September 27th at 5 pm.
