Strike Vote Dates

For this coming strike vote, there will be two ways to take part. Within the Edmonton area, including Sherwood Park and St. Albert, there will be buses parked near the work facilities. Outside of Edmonton, there will be votes in halls. There will also be three dates for voting opportunities at our union office.

Important Steps

  • Show up to work early and do not vote on company time
  • Votes must be held in accordance with the guidelines in the Canada Labour Code
  • You must sign in with proof of CUPW membership or CPC employment
  • Have government-issued photo ID
  • You must attend a short information session before you are allowed to vote
  • Once session starts, doors will be closed to late entries
  • Voting is done by a secret ballot after the information session
  • All CUPW members, including temps, are allowed to participate in this vote

Voting Yes

A strike vote is called when our negotiators feel they are not able to make any headway on our demands. It does not mean we will be going on strike immediately. What we are actually voting on is whether we approve of our National Executive having the right to call for a strike if/when they think it's necessary. It is, in the end, another bargaining chip for our negotiators to use.

To make this bargaining chip as strong as possible, it is important to get as many members as possible to vote and to get as many of them as possible to vote yes. It helps show the employer that we are engaged and we mean it. A strong strike mandate and high member participation can be enough to prevent or shorten a strike.
