Friends and comrades,
In this week's dispatch, we're covering the program of demands and referendum votes, driving safety audits, the October GMM, and the Regional Conflict Committee.
Solidarity,
Kyle Turner, Communications Officer
Program of Demands Ratification and Referendum
Our program of demands ratification votes are being paired with a referendum on whether or not one of our demands should be to bring the RSMC Collective Agreement into the Urban Collective Agreement. However you decide to vote on these matters, a high turnout will help send a strong message to our negotiating committee as well as to the employer.
Now, I did make some typos in a previous dispatch and on a poster. An updated poster will be sent out. The website also has the most up-to-date information, and you can see that post
HERE.
Lana Smidt (National Director for the Prairie Region) and Rona Eckert (1st National Vice-President) will be present for the meetings held between October 11th and 15th. If you would like to check out the program of demands, you can see it in the most recent issue of
Perspective Magazine.
Driving Safety Audits
It has been brought to our attention that the Corporation is doing driving safety audits on drivers. Please know that you have the right to representation (Article 10.06) if you are requested by the employer to attend a meeting. If you find yourself in this situation, make sure you specifically request a Shop Steward to be present to accompany you to the meeting.
Based on the reports we've heard so far, the auditors are telling members these meetings are not disciplinary, but they also can't or won't answer questions about whether the training they're offering is voluntary. What is for certain, however, is that the employer is using these audits and meetings to suspend members' driving privileges.
To reiterate, if you find yourself in this position, please request a Shop Steward. If you're having any issues with this, please contact the Local office (780-423-9000 or
www.cupw730.ca).
October GMM
Just a reminder that our October GMM will be happening on
October 14th at the
Lakewood Community League (260 Lakewood Road NE) at
10 am (before the ratification votes). For further details, please see our
website post.
