Local Summer Education Opportunities (Updated)

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

All members in good standing are invited to apply for any course they have not participated in before. Any member participating in these courses will be reimbursed for any scheduled CPC day(s) of work they miss. Courses scheduled to be at the CUPW 730 office** are subject to change, including cancellation, depending on shifting pandemic public health guidelines.

Please read carefully: Applications can be copied, or filled out digitally or printed from: LINK. In order for this application to be considered, all requested info must be provided, and the questionnaire fully answered. Please be sure to include the full name of the course you are applying for as well well as what date preferences you have (if the course offers multiple dates). One application must be filled out for each different course you hope to attend.

Once filled, email the completed forms or pictures of forms to: educate730@gmail.com. Alternatively, physical copies can be printed, filled, and brought to, or mailed to, our local union hall (18121 107 Ave, T5S 1K4, Edmonton, AB) before the listed application deadlines. If your application is accepted, you will be contacted with further details.

Pension Course

Saturday, September 2nd, 8 am to 4 pm @ CUPW 730 Office**

Retirement is a significant life change and navigating those changes can be confusing! This 1 day course is designed to give you information and suggestions on how to make your transition as smooth as possible. Application deadline: Friday, August 25th at 4 pm.

Know Your Rights (Urban)

Saturday, August 19th, 8 am to 4 pm @ CUPW 730 Office**

This course is designed to teach CUPW members of the Urban bargaining unit their rights. This 1-day course was designed to give you a basic understanding of the Collective Agreement and the Canada Labour Code. Application deadline: Friday, August 11th at 4 pm.

Advanced Shop Steward (5-Days)

Tuesday, August 29th through to Saturday, September 2nd, time forthcoming @ CUPW 730 Office**

The 5 day advanced shop steward course is an opportunity for committed local activists, who are already active shop stewards, to further refine their knowledge and skills. The basic course gave you the tools, the advanced course challenges you to take more of a leading role in our local as someone capable of mentoring and assisting other activists and stewards in their own development. If you have a serious interest in growing as a leader and
powerful advocate for your co-workers, this course is the perfect next step.. Application deadline: forthcoming.
